Reverend Barbara L. Cann
Barbara is an ordained elder in the New England Conference, and has served churches in North Reading for 3 years and Duxbury, MA for 12 years. She is currently on a year sabbatical leave. She earned a certificate in Radiologic Technology from Northeastern University, is a graduate of Gordon College, majoring in Mathematics/Secondary Education, and received her M. Div from Boston University School of Theology. She has served on the Metro-Boston South District Committee on Church Location and Property and various conference boards including the Conference Board of Trustees, where she chaired the Insurance Committee and provided leadership with the implementation of conference property insurance program. Barbara is currently the Vice-President of the Conference Council of Finance and Administration and a member of the Loan Committee of the United Methodist Foundation. She has been active in Walk To Emmaus for 20 years and helped establish the Chrysalis Community in Southern New England.
Barbara has taught Disciple Bible Study, ALPHA and "The Purpose Driven Life", led children and adult choirs, directed Vacation Bible School, ministered in older adult facilities and served on several mission teams. While in Duxbury the congregation grew larger in size and deeper in faith. With God's help, a successful capital funds campaign was conducted there, a large addition was added to the church facility and a parsonage was purchased. She also served as the President of the Duxbury Interfaith Council for several years.
Barbara has interests in major fundraising and building projects, she loves to sing and play piano, enjoys sewing and all kinds of needlework. She likes to wield hammers and paint brushes, to play Scrabble and piece puzzles together, to laugh and be silly sometimes.
Barbara is married to Rev. James Cann who is currently pastor at Rochester UMC in Rochester New Hampshire. He has served church in Byfield, Saugus, Reading and Plymouth Massachusetts. They have two grown children, Bethany who is a music teacher in Philadelphia and David who is a computer programmer.
