May 18th - Teen Challenge Sunday
The Manchester Teen Challenge Choir will lead our worship on May 18TH at the 10:00 service. They travel New Hampshire to sing and testify of the miraculous change God has done in their lives through this ministry. You will be blessed by the wonderful display of God's grace and mercy! Pastor Barbara says, “I had the Brockton, MA Teen Challenge Choir for about 10 years at my previous church. They were well received and people were glad to have them return year after year.” We will receive an additional offering on this Sunday to support their important ministry and they will share lunch with us following worship. Teen Challenge New England is a locally operated, registered non-profit organization offering residential care and practical mentorship for people suffering life-controlling problem, since 1962. We utilize the most successful treatment protocol in the world, whose success has been proven for 50 years and in over 70 different countries. Our efforts to help those suffering include a 15 month residential treatment program, intervention through concerned counseling and community care and prevention with Drug Awareness Teams and outreaches on the streets, in schools and at local businesses.
You may have seen the Teen Challenge Drug Awareness Team at a store-front. This is the "front line" of their ministry. Teams of two are stationed at store-fronts all across New Hampshire to spread a message of hope that lives can change! They tell those who are interested about Teen Challenge and what it offers, distribute drug prevention literature and share the gospel, as well as receive donations. Many students enter the program because they met someone on DAT!
Bring your friends and relatives to hear how God has changed lives in miraculous ways, see the Holy Spirit at work and be inspired by how God can work in your life too.
May 25th - Support our Troops Sunday
On
the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend we will focus on our military
troops through “Strength for Service to God and Country.” We will read
some of the writings in the “Strength for Service”
devotional share some of the life changing testimonies of our service
men and women and accept donations to purchase these devotionals for
our military personnel. Pastor Barbara is looking for several
military related people to help with these readings on May 25th
at each service. You are especially encouraged to invite families of
active military and anyone who has served our country to be with us
in worship. Service men and women around the world today are being inspired by the pocket devotional Strength for Service. More than one million copies of this book were first distributed during World War II and the Korean conflict before it went out of print. Fifty years later, a young boy named Evan Hunsberger was inspired by his grandfather’s worn copy and began working to republish the book as his Eagle Scout project.
Since Strength for Service was released in 2002, the book has been distributed to over 300,000 people of all denominations. The books have been given to troops deploying to the Middle East, and they have also been sent to institutions caring for the wounded. However, with new deployments, thousands of troops have a need for this moving and relevant devotional.
Lives are being changed every day through Strength for Service. By increasing awareness and generating donations, our church could make an eternaldifference in the lives of many military men and women and their families. The General Commission on United Methodist Men is committed to ensuring a copy of this powerful book is placed in the hands of every military man and woman serving overseas. Our church’s support can make this ambitious goal a reality.
Spring Clean-Up
The Trustees are
asking for your help! Bring your rakes, work gloves and elbow grease
on Saturday, May 17th
from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. to clean up the church grounds and inside the
building.
If
everyone does a small part, we’ll have the church shining brightly
in no time at all. We need people to work outside on the church
property and inside to wash windows, clean the kitchens,
refrigerators, freezer, dust the offices, sanctuary, nursery, etc.
(We’ll still have work for the Sexton to do).
